To plant guava seeds, follow these steps for the best results:

1. Prepare the Seeds

  • Clean the Seeds: Remove any remaining guava pulp from the seeds by washing them thoroughly.
  • Dry the Seeds: Let the seeds dry for a day or two in a cool, shaded place.
  • Scarify (Optional): To speed up germination, you can soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours before planting. This helps soften the hard seed coat.

2. Prepare the Soil

  • Guava grows best in well-draining soil. Use a mix of garden soil and compost or potting mix to improve drainage and fertility.
  • The pH of the soil should be between 5 and 7 (slightly acidic to neutral).

3. Plant the Seeds

  • Plant Depth: Sow the seeds about 0.5 to 1 inch deep.
  • Spacing: If planting multiple seeds, space them about 1–2 inches apart.
  • Watering: Water the soil thoroughly after planting, but don’t let it become waterlogged.

4. Care for the Seedlings

  • Sunlight: Place the seed tray or pot in a warm, sunny location. Guava seeds need warmth to germinate, so keeping the temperature between 75–85°F (24–29°C) helps.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not too wet. Water lightly when the top layer of the soil dries out.
  • Germination Time: Guava seeds take 3–8 weeks to germinate.

5. Transplanting

  • Once the seedlings have 4–6 true leaves and are about 4–6 inches tall, you can transplant them into larger pots or directly into the garden.
  • Make sure the new planting site has full sunlight and well-drained soil.

6. Long-term Care

  • Watering: Water regularly, especially during dry periods.
  • Fertilizing: Use organic compost or a balanced fertilizer to promote healthy growth.
  • Pruning: As the tree grows, prune it to shape and remove dead or diseased branches.

Guava trees may take 2-3 years to start producing fruit, so patience is key!
